Our own Jeroen Verbrugge is one of the key note speakers at the Marketing & Design Congress on June 20 in Amsterdam.
As member of the Dutch Creative Industry Council and Managing Director of FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB, Jeroen will be speaking about the effectiveness and return on investment of design.

The spectacular and innovative FlooW, electric power supported quadricycle, designed by FLEX is shown at the FLEX stand at the IOB 2013 (Industrial Design Business Fair) at Technical University in Delft on February 20th and 21st .
In a few months the 46th edition of the ADCN awards will take place in Amsterdam. The ' ADCN jaarprijzen' is being considered one of the most renowned Dutch awards for advertising and design. The best entrees will be awarded a silver or golden lamp. FLEX' senior designer and team manager Sven van Westreenen will be one of the members of the jury for the category packaging design.
For DREMEL FLEX has designed a compact all-round and userfriendly scroll saw for making detailed cuts in different materials. FLEX was present at PACKAGING INNOVATIONS 2012 at the Passenger Terminal in Amsterdam November 28th en 29th.
PACKAGING INNOVATIONS is a unique event for the latest trends and innovations in luxury and consumer packaging. Visitors are presented the newest packaging and packaging materials and design agencies share their vision on packaging designs.
We have invited many of our clients to an inspiring afternoon on Design Thinking this coming thursday november 22. Jeroen Verbrugge, managing director of FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB: "DesignThinking comes from the world of management consultancy and describes the problem solving capacity of the creative mind. It opens up new opportunities for designers in fields they have traditionally never covered". Jeroen will give a brief presentation of the main insights of his dissertation 'Creative Reflection': a 'chaordic' design method that makes
more effective use of the intuitive thinking capabilities of designers. Key note speaker is Harry Starren, former general manager of De Baak. In his talk, 'A Designed Life', Harry will give his vision on Design Thinking within the context of businesses, bridging the gap between theory, practical implementation and future opportunities.

The SPA glass bottles for the catering industry were awarded with a silver Pentaward 2012!
FLEX, responsible for the structural packaging design worked together on this with the BrandNew team who did the graphic design for the award winning bottles. The glass bottles are completed with elegant glasses suitable for every restaurant table.
On October 4th Jeroen Verbrugge defended his dissertation on five design cases and a new design approach at the University of Twente. In "Creative Reflection" he studied the different ways designers go through their
creative process. His personal involvement in those 5 different projects allowed him to reflect on various methodologies and identify a new design approach that both facilitates a rational process and as well as utilize
designers' talents in working with a very complex set of variables. At 4 p.m. we toasted with the very proud dr. ir. J.K. Verbrugge!
National Geographic is running a series on the top Dutch industry sectors called Made in NL. The creative industry was identified as a main driver for economic growth in the Netherlands and selected as the subject of one of the documentaries. In this episode of Made in NL National Geographic is following FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB in their development of the famous Grolsch swing top bottle. It also shows Marcel Wanders in the creation process of a new lamp that was recently introduced at the Salone del Mobile in Milan.

FLEX developed the new postman's bag for PostNL, clear market leader for the postal market in The Netherlands. The new bag simplifies our postmen's jobs, especially on peak days, carrying three bundles: 24 hours postal service, non 24 hours service and door-to-door. Once available they can choose to take the new bag or new mail pouch. FLEX was also responsible for the postmen's earlier bags (former TNT post). A new reality for Dutch postmen!
Food designer Katja Gruijters (www.katjagruijters.nl) asked FLEX to co-moderate a food design workshop in Singapore. The Ministry of Information, Culture and Arts of Singapore organized this event to introduce local designers
to this new design discipline. Marcel joined Katja to share his expertise in the field of structural packaging design. During a 4-day workshop the participants developed 8 food concepts resulting in a successful exhibition with edible
mock-ups. They learned to experiment with food shape, taste and texture and to integrate packaging and communi-
cation into their concept.
And we learned a lot about the fantastic local food culture!
MOTI, Museum of the Image, presents 'SUPERMART', a narrative exhibition on packaging design. Placing the seemingly everyday on a pedestal, SUPERMART is an exhibition in which packaging plays the lead.
FLEX structural packaging design for icons like Grolsch, HERO Fruit2Day, Albert Heijn fresh juice and detergents and Bols liqueur are part of the exhibition.
SUPERMART will be open to visits from Sunday December 11th 2011 - April 1st 2012.
In the last edition of Packaging Magazine senior brand manager Robin van Bruinhorst of Westland Kaas talks about the development of the successful new Maaslander chees packaging. With a new combination of existing technologies FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB has been able to develop a unique cheese pack that offers convenience as well as better communication of brand values: handy, pure and tasty!
The Lely Welger Baler designed by FLEX takes care of a very impressive entrance of the IOB 2011(Industrial Design Business Fair) at Technical University in Delft on November 23 and 24th.
On a regular basis FLEX organizes Inspirational Afternoons for clients and business partners. In June 2011 the topic was the Effectiveness of Design. Scientific research proves that success of a new product is greater if
there is a focus on design during the development phase. Guest speakers inspired our participants with scientific as well as practical information and cases. A good opportunity for everyone to exchange ideas and views.
The Afternoon january 18, 2012 will focuss on innovation in Food. Our guest speakers are Arjan de Boer managing partner of the Food Inspiration Magazine and Katja Gruijters, well known Food Designer.
The Dutch government indicated creative industries being one of the top sectors, important for Dutch economic growth.The book DUTCH INDUSTRIAL LANDSCAPE contributes to a better
understanding of how Dutch companies continue to work on growth and innovation, relevant for the Dutch economy, presenting 50 inspiring business cases.

On October 2, 2011 The National Maritime Museum (Scheepvaartmuseum) in Amsterdam reopened after four years of restoration and modernization. From that day on visitors can again enjoy the magnificent building and its exhibits, telling the story of the Dutch maritime history. Design agency FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB helped them creating this new reality and was responsible for the design of the showcases and optimization of the Open Pleyn's floor.
For WeBeatTheMountain FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB developed a system to refurbish old 20' containers into inspiring working environments using recycled mterials. The first container is currently used in Baarn and will be getting a more permanent location at Schiphol airport offering exhibition space for sustainable projects by TheGROUNDS, the organization supporting sustainable projects at Schiphol.
In Medellin Colombia the Eafit University, telecom provider UNE and others members of the ARTICA alliance, are running a project in co-creation. With FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB a unique methodology has been developed applying various tools for brainstorming, design research and co-creation. Petri van de Goorbergh and Ronald Lewerissa spent two weeks with the team, exploring the methodology to create a deep understanding of customer needs and to interact with them in every phase of the innovation process.
On Thursday October 13th agencies FLEX and Ontwerpwerk initiated the creative workshop NEW BIKE. The creative teams of both agencies worked together on an innovative plan for the bike industry. After a brief introduction 8 mixed teams received different assignments. The best idea will be further refined and presented to a manufacturers, governmental insitutes or investment companies.
Team "Bike and information" came up with the most promising idea. To conclude this inspiring afternoon, home made pizzas were prepared in a traditional oven. It is great to experience the quantity as well as the quality of all the different ideas produced in one hour! Creating a new reality with two creative complimentary teams.
Upon entering The Netherlands at Schiphol airport one of the first things that catches the attention is a large billboard with the Bols liqueur bottles designed by Flex. Bols, a global brand we are proud to show.
FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB developed the latest portable harddrive models for Freecom. The sleek designs are sold in the Apple stores and on-line Apple web shops.

WeBeatTheMountain and FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB have joint efforts in finding solutions for the mountains of waste in our world.
One of those solutions is the development and marketing of products made of the materials that can be found in those mountains.
The first products brought to market are a series of laptop sleeves and iPad covers. The case is described in detail in the july issue of product magazine.

Jeroen Verbrugge is one of the adivisors developing policy on the future of the Creative Industry in the Netherlands for the ministry of economic affairs. The Dutch government has identified the Creative Industry as one of the major areas of excellence and growth. Jeroen will develop a clear vision on education, economic infra structure and the relationships between the industry the academic world and knowledge institutes.
FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB has won 2 prestigious Red Dot Design awards. One for the design of the range of Skil garden tools, the other for the development and engineering of the innovative chairlift for Ooms.
FLEX/the INNOVATIONLAB and Lely agricultural equipment won the Dutch Design Award with the Welger baler: a large machine making bales of hay, safe, fast and efficient!
